Who Is the Eno DoubleNest Hammock For?

The Eno DoubleNest hammock is meant to be enjoyed by pairs, groups, and families. Because it’s a hammock-for-two, you can greatly save on cost and space.

This hammock also appeals to solo backpackers and campers who prefer a palatial space to sleep or relax. Unfolded, it measures 112 x 74 inches which is pretty large for one person. That means you have plenty of space to move and stretch your tired muscles after a long day of hike.

The DoubleNest has a capacity of 400 lbs. Thus, people who are extra heavy can comfortably settle down in it. Despite its hefty size, this hammock packs down into a size of a grapefruit. At just 1 lb. 3 oz., even children and older adults can carry it with ease.

Aside from camping, the DoubleNest hammock by Eno can be used for many outdoor activities. It’s also great to have for travels, open-air festivals, family picnics, barbecues, and more.

Even if you don’t camp or travel a lot, the DoubleNest hammock makes a fine addition to your backyard. It may not look as fancy as the traditional backyard hammocks but it definitely is sturdy enough to resist daily use and abuse.

What Hammock Type Is The Eno DoubleNest?

The Eno DoubleNest is a two-person camping hammock. Many people prefer to use a hammock instead of a tent because it is more comfortable and easier to assemble and take down.

The DoubleNest has a more conventional design, with a shape like a banana. While your back will be slightly arched the whole time, the use of sleeping pads will make it much more comfortable.

Moreover, this gear comes with aluminum wiregate carabiners that can be clipped to any solid anchor points and are compatible with most suspension systems. With this, the hammock sets up in seconds and requires minimal tools. Basically, you will just need ropes and the perfect spot to set it up.

Eno DoubleNest Hammock Features Quality Test

Strength

When shopping for camping hammocks, the first thing you want to know is how durable they are.

The Eno DoubleNest is made of 70D High Tenacity Nylon Taffeta. It is a durable fabric that feels smooth and soft to the touch, similar to a parachute. It’s also touted for its breathability and quick-drying properties.

The nylon fabric is sewn with triple stitching around the seams. This reinforces the strength of the fabric and enhances the hammock’s resistance to wear and tear.

Eno also makes high-quality straps. Unfortunately, you have to buy them separately as they aren’t included in the package.

When used with care, the DoubleNest can last a long time.

Portability

As with any camping gear, we pay so much attention to how portable it is. As mentioned, the DoubleNest is a huge hammock as it is designed for two people. Nonetheless, it is made with lightweight materials so packing and transporting it is a breeze.

Another interesting feature of the DoubleNest is the built-in sack which also doubles as a storage for your camping essentials.

When packed down properly, this hammock gets compressed into a size of a grapefruit! As it weighs just over a pound, you can tuck it in your backpack, in your car, travel bag, or boat.

Water Resistance

Eno hammocks can be used outdoors, rain or shine. It’s ideally used for summertime but it can withstand light drizzles to moderate rain showers.

However, it isn’t designed to provide you shelter during a storm. It also doesn’t come with a rain fly so unless you use one (or a tarp as an alternative), you might end up soaked when it rains. You can also buy a rain fly from Eno.

While rain won’t damage your hammock, constant exposure to rain and sun can cause its color to fade and ultimately, the fabric to wear. It’s important to let it dry before storing it to avoid any form of damage, including discoloration and mold build-up. Fortunately, the DoubleNest is quick-drying so you won’t have to wait forever.

Weatherproofing

The Eno DoubleNest is undoubtedly great for summer. But can it be used for winter camping too?

A myth about hammocks is that they are unable to handle colder temperatures. That’s not really the case. By utilizing a four-season hammock setup, it can actually keep you warm and comfortable night and day.

The cool thing about Eno is that you can actually upgrade your hammock to suit your camping needs. For instance, if you are backpacking in the winter, they sell underquilts and top quilts that will keep you warm in freezing temps. It’s also great to use a sleeping pad for a cozy sleep.

Additionally, you can purchase a specifically designed tarp for hammocks, such as the HouseFly that protects against strong wind while offering plenty of ventilation, unlike a traditional tent.

Again, the DoubleNest hammock itself will not keep you warm and safe in cold conditions. But you can upgrade your gear to equip it with insulation and other protective features.

Lightweight

As we’ve mentioned earlier, the DoubleNest weighs just over a pound. It isn’t the lightest option around but considering that it’s designed for two people, it’s pretty lightweight for its kind.

The DoubleNest is a basic hammock. It doesn’t come with special accessories except from the wiregate carabiners. This means that you have to pack ropes or webbing straps too, which could add up to the weight of your gear.

Features We Love

Breathable Material

The thing we like the most about the Eno DoubleNest hammock is its breathability. When you’re camping on a hot summer day (or night), you want a hammock that promotes good air flow. Nylon taffeta is a highly breathable material. It will keep you protected without keeping you toasty.

Such a good level of breathability lends itself to a cool and comfortable camping experience.

Aluminum Wiregate Carabiners

When setting up a hammock, you’ll instantly think of trees as the best place to tie it into. But what if there are no trees? Luckily, the Eno DoubleNest comes with two lightweight toggles (aluminum wiregate carabiners) with stainless-steel snap links. All these allow you to secure your DoubleNest not just to trees but also poles, boat masts, or even the wall.

Note, however, that you will need suspension systems. You can buy a generic one as the Eno carabiners are compatible with most suspension systems or you can buy a set from them directly.

Suspension straps make setting up your hammock so quick and easy. You don’t need to have any knowledge of knots as the suspension straps tighten themselves when wrapped around an object. You can also play between 10 and 25 feet of distance between your anchor points, unlike most hammocks that are limited to 10 feet.

Versatility

As mentioned, the Eno DoubleNest hammock is a pretty basic type of hammock which doesn’t make it any less. Actually, its simplicity makes it a versatile piece of equipment. You can easily upgrade or downgrade your hammock based on your needs or according to the terrain conditions.

Enoc makes other kinds of hammock but the DoubleNest is touted as the most versatile because it can comfortably fit two people (up to 400 pounds). When used solo, it’s a huge haven that gives you room to stretch. If you’re camping in an area that’s too narrow for a tent, the DoubleNest gives you plenty of space for your pillows, sleeping pad, and other essentials.

Compression Stuff Sack

Unpacking a hammock and setting it up is easy. Another feature that impressed us is the built-in stuff sack. Many hammocks don’t come with their own bags. This one does. And it’s attached to the hammock so you won’t lose it.

The compression sack is really cool because using this, you can pack down your hammock into a very small, fruit-like pouch. Then, you can clip the bag into your backpack.
