Coleman Triton 2-Burner Stove Features Quality Test
Easy to Use
The Coleman Triton Series 2-Burner Stove is one of the most intuitive camp stoves out there. Attaching the gas adaptor and propane tank takes literally seconds, and you can use it straight out of the box.
Each of the two burners output 11,000 BTU and come with dedicated knobs, for easier control of each cooking area.
Coleman proposes two kinds of Triton series stoves, the Triton and the Triton+. The main difference between the two is the presence of automatic ignition on the latter.
No matter what model you choose, they are both easy to light up in all weather conditions. Furthermore, the cooking surface is truly generous for such a compact stove.
Time to Boil
According to the manufacturer's claims, it takes around 3 minutes to boil a quart of water with this stove. In a real camping situation, the time to boil is around 4 minutes, which is still impressively fast.
Windscreens on three sides help maintain the performance even in gusts, the stove being an excellent choice for sanitizing unclean water or melting snow, among others.
Like most propane camp stoves, the Triton works with standard 16.4 oz gas canisters. Such quantity of gas suffices for around 1 hour of continuous burn time.
Weighing 10.1 pounds and measuring 22.8" x 13.8" x 5.8", the Coleman Triton is a portable 2-burner stove. Sure, it might not be your best choice if you're looking for a backpacking model, but it's great for car camping and tailgating.
We also like that it folds to a briefcase, the carrying handle eliminating the need of a bag.
Similar to other 2-burner camp stoves from Coleman, the Triton comes with folding windshields. The lid also turns into a windshield as soon as you open the case, protecting the flame from three sides.
Thanks to this feature, you won't have to struggle to light the stove in windy conditions, nor will you notice any drop in performance.
Born as a tabletop stove, the Coleman Triton is as stable as it gets - as long as you're placing it on a flat surface. It doesn't have adjustable legs, but the anti-skid rubber on the feet provides stability on most surfaces.
The Coleman Triton doesn't shine when it comes to simmering. Its smaller burners tend to create hot spots on the pan, and adjusting the flame to simmer foods is often a pain.
This doesn't mean you can't simmer with this stove, though. As long as you have enough patience to play with the knobs until you achieve your goal, simmering is doable.
Features We Love
Ideal for feeding up to 6 people, the Coleman Triton 2-burner stove has a generous cooking surface. It can hold a 10-inch and a 12-inch pan simultaneously, while the separate burner controls allow you to easily create different temperature zones.
Optional Griddle Accessory
This 2-burner stove is compatible with Coleman's camp griddle, an accessory that fits perfectly over the two burners and that packs conveniently inside the stove for easier storage and transport.
While this accessory is sold separately, it can enhance the stove's versatility, allowing you to use it as a camp grill, too.
A removable chrome-plated grate and aluminized cooktop make this stove very easy to clean. Food can hardly stick to the high-quality surface, so all it takes is a soft sponge and lukewarm water to clean up all drips and messes.
Thanks to the large windscreens covering three sides of the stove, the Triton boasts incredible wind resistance. Bringing water to a boil could take a few minutes longer in stronger gusts, but overall, the stove's performance is constant in all weather conditions.
What Buyers Say About Their Coleman Triton 2-Burner Stove?
Most buyers are satisfied with the quality and reliability of this stove. Unanimously judged as a portable camping stove, the Coleman Triton is praised for its versatility.
Users like how easy it is to set up and use. The briefcase design when closed is also appreciated by most users. The time to boil and performance in wind are also praised by most campers.
On the downside, users criticize how difficult it is to adjust the temperature to simmer, and the hot spots that tend to burn foods.
