Most 2 burner camp stoves run on either propane or butane, the former performing better than the latter. However, butane is lighter than propane. Once again, it all comes down to your style of camping. If you need a stove for hiking or backpacking, go for a butane stove. Butane containers are lighter than propane ones, so you’ll be able to reduce the burden.
For all other purposes or if you’re camping at high altitudes or in very low temperatures, a propane stove is undeniably more efficient.
If you can’t decide between the two, you should know that some manufacturers propose dual-fuel stoves that run on both propane and butane.
Before making up your mind, we should also mention that some stoves run on mixed fuels; some stoves in this category can only use fuel blends provided by the manufacturer. We advise against these stoves, especially if they don’t come from a popular brand. While we can’t discuss their quality, if the brand stops producing the fuel mix, you will have to change the stove.
